Winter Happenings at Riverbend

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Marty the Moose visiting the cabinsRiverbend is welcoming in the New Year with a bit warmer temperatures and increased wildlife sightings. Just this morning, we woke to the sound of cracking branches, crunching footsteps and barking dogs. A large moose had wandered into the yard and the dogs were intent on checking out the intruder. Fortunately for the dogs, the moose was pre-occupied with stripping the bark from Willow branches and ignored the intrusion to finish his morning meal.

Last week, as temperatures dipped to 38 below zero at Riverbend, hearty souls braved a 180 degree temperature change to race from the cabins to the wood-fired steam sauna.

This time of year we begin looking forward to spring when we have longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures. February and March bring many anticipated winter activities such as the Yukon Quest Race, Open North American and World Ice Art Championships. Our guests enjoy snow machine tours up the frozen Chena River and surrounding trails.

Come and join us and enjoy the serenity and beauty of Alaska’s Winter Wonderland
